I am truly passionate about involvement in my community. At heart, human beings are gregarious creatures, who thrive when socially interactive.
It is a sad truth that we are becoming a more segmented society – detached from one another and from ourselves. Evidence seen all around, in the news and the escalating crime rates and social problems we experience daily. Not to mention our failing health!
My prime focus is therefore to “unite” people from all walks of life and experience, for the combined purpose of developing and maintaining loving relationships, in the spirit of community and kinship. In doing, so we discover elements of ourselves and feel good about it, as we connect again!
“A life will pass to fast… but things done with LOVE
are things that LAST.”
Bearing this in mind, I believe in the power of a smile - especially for a stranger - because a stranger may become a friend. Making time for “coffee with a neighbour” or a “shoulder for a friend” is time well spent!
My husband and I grow our own food. This practice in itself creates a wonderful opportunity for bringing people together and sharing the produce of the earth – not to mention the joy of cooking and sharing a meal with others.
In short – MY COMMUNITY is at the HEART of what I do, everyday in every way!
EDUCATION IS THE FOUNDATION OF COMMUNITY SPIRIT
I lecture at The Institute of Optimum Nutrition (Patrick Holford), Brooklands Adult Community College in Weybridge, Kingston Further and Higher Education College in Kingston. My core subject areas are: Complementary Medicine; Psychology and Personal Development and Health and Social Care.
I adore my students!I have found that working with them has been a truly “mutually” rewarding experience. I am delighted to share my knowledge, understanding and some of my life experience, with my learners, who eagerly reciprocate. For me, the education process is not only academic or static - it is a truly dynamic process which embraces LIFE itself, because through understanding and communication we are able to conquer any obstacle and make our mark upon this world! It is a fantastic feeling when I witness my student’s success, despite them facing many adversities and hardships, they still achieve excellence. I am honored to be part of this beautiful process.
I have a soft spot for teenagersand can appreciate how they may be misunderstood. I have found in my very humble experience that firm boundaries together with a loving and consistent approach, demonstrating a true appreciation and respect for teenagers’ unique world view, is vital to the development of good relationships with our teens which enhances their sense of self worth and esteem. A “valued and heard” teenager is a happy teenager! In fact… that really applies to all of us – doesn’t it! I get my teens involved in all sorts of projects, ranging from gardening or D.I.Y projects, to a game of badminton or brainstorming business ideas. I give them free reign to express their individuality and I am delighted by their ideas and their achievements. I have got some of my best business ideas from teens!
